Czech Republic vs. Poland: The First Environmental Lawsuit Between EU Member States

In February 2021, the Czech Foreign Minister Thomas Petricek announced a lawsuit against the Polish Republic at the ECJ over the controversial extension of the concession for open-pit coal mining in the Turów tri-border area. For the first time in the history of the European Union, two Member States are suing each other on the grounds of environmental misconduct.
