Impact of Climate Change on the Arab Spring and Migrant Crisis

The photos of Aylan Kurdi shook the world in September 2015 as the migrant crisis reached its mediatic climax. But this photo does not represent a forgotten past. Climate change, through its impact on food insecurity and subsequent migratory movements, continues to produce waves of humanitarian emergencies. This piece will look at Climate Change’s impact on the Arab Spring through the 2010 wheat crop yields and the Egypt Uprising. It will also explore the consequences this unrest had on migratory waves.
