Overview
In its second year, the International School on Climate Migration brought 80 participants – students, academics and practitioners from 46 countries around the world – together with more than 30 visiting experts to engage in enriching online lectures and rigorous seminars over the course of our six-week summer school. Placing climate justice at the centre of our program, each week we unpacked and built upon topical themes related to climate migration throughout the lecture and seminar sessions. ISCM participants had the opportunity to connect with, learn from and alongside their peers and visiting experts and to engage with tough questions, contribute their insights and expertise and draw on relevant experiences from their research and work.
Beyond the Classroom
In 2023, the ISCM Capstone Project facilitated meaningful contributions to the climate mobility field, including providing input to the legal database on climate migration with Earth Refuge, a policy brief on engaging diaspora in disaster response with Shabaka, and a toolkit for disaster relief focused on women and LGBTQI+ communities with Equality Bahamas. These projects were driven by the participants’ dedication to applying their academic knowledge to practical challenges, resulting in outputs that are currently under review for publication by our partner organizations. The success of these initiatives demonstrates the potential for academic and practical collaboration to produce valuable resources and insights into addressing climate mobility.
